High School Mentoring
The High School Mentoring program provides Academic Tutoring and Mentoring to students so they can increase Student Achievement and become Independent Learners.
Services take place at the school site on a flexible schedule. Tutors and mentors are present during lunch time, 5th-7th period and after school. Mentors are assigned a case load of 10-12 students and will make face-to-face contact with each of their mentees multiple times each week.
All mentoring contacts are documented using a Mentoring Log that can be accessed via Google Docs. Daily student attendance is documented and tracked using a Daily Attendance Log that can also be accessed via Google Docs.

Academic Tutoring and Mentoring:

-
Academic Tutoring focuses on student comprehension of daily classroom instruction and assistance on homework. Tutoring takes place either one on one or in small groups.
-
Mentoring and coaching ensures deadlines are met, projects are completed, and preparation for exams is increased. Mentoring focuses on the development of attitudes, behaviors, and strategies that facilitate success in school.
The academic standing of students will also be monitored by mentors. Our staff will communicate directly with classroom teachers to ensure students are making progress.
Young adults who face an opportunity gap but have a mentor are 55% more likely to be in college than those who do not have a mentor. (The Mentoring Effect, 2014)
Valdez Educational Services understands the positive impact a Mentor can have on the students they work with. In all our years of experience working with high school students, we have seen that our Mentoring Program has made a significant difference in the lives of students.
Our staff are encouraging, caring and supportive. Their goal is to establish a strong relationship that is characterized by mutuality, trust and empathy. Each Mentor has vast experience providing Academic Tutoring and Mentoring to high school students.
